Start with how worked you want the stone
Our boulders sit on a spectrum. At one end, Natural Boulders are supplied close to their quarried form, hand selected for shape and only lightly worked where a flat resting face is needed. At the other, Blackberry Monoliths carry a dense dimpled relief over every face. In between, Art Monolith keeps the natural mass intact and adds a single carved detail to one face. Choose the stone for the setting
Boulders are available in sandstone, basalt, granite and marble, depending on the piece. Sandstone is warm and quiet, basalt is dark and dense, and granite sits between them in weight and character. Against pale paving, a dark basalt boulder gives strong contrast. Against dark foliage, a lighter sandstone catches the eye. Let a boulder do a job
Seating Monolith carves a single flat, comfortable seat into an otherwise natural boulder, so the stone is furniture without losing its raw character on every other face. Group in odd numbers, vary the sizes
Boulders read best as a family. Sets of three or five, in varying sizes, look settled in a way that a pair never does. Natural Boulders are sold individually or as a landscaped group, and Blackberry Monoliths are supplied as a grouped set of varying sizes for gardens, courtyards and entrance landscaping, or as a single monolith. Leave breathing room between pieces, and let one stone be clearly the largest.
Pair them with the rest of the garden

Boulders are solid blocks, and they are heavy. Tell us early about gates, steps, levels and the ground you are placing them on, because a firm, level base matters more than the stone itself.
